It's so funny how inspiration for a blog post can hit me right in the face sometimes. I love that kind of inspiration -- it's a no brainer, must-post kind of inspiration. Sometimes I struggle with figuring out what I want to post about, and then other times it's perfectly laid on my heart and I'm sure that I must share it. Today as I was doing my prep work for February in my Powersheets (see my goals for 2017 over here), it was one of those hit me right in the face kind of moments, and I was excited! Here's what I want to share with you today: "Small movements lead to big changes!"
Warning: this post is somewhat lengthy, but I promise you, it's worth the read. My hope is that it makes you feel inspired and supported as you reflect and create intentions/goals for this beautiful year ahead!
Friends, it's been slow around here, huh?! I've been really struggling with keeping up with my blog in this season of life! It's not something I'm proud of or happy with, but again, I think back on my 5 steps to a more balanced life, and I remember -- there is grace. Work-life balance is so hard, and we will not ever perfect it all the time! Anyways, I'm happy to be here in this online space of mine, writing about what's been on my mind lately.
We all know the story of the tortoise and the hare, and the lesson that comes of it: "slow and steady wins the race." My heart is screaming at me right now to really embrace that lesson, put it into play in my life right now. See, I am someone who jumps into something full force right away, and as a result, I quickly run myself down.
I've always been this girl with a bunch of passions. I love: wellness, crafting & lettering, fitness (running & Pure Barre mostly), writing, baking, educating, and more. I kind of feel like I'm just all over the place... when I think about my blog's purpose or just my purpose in general, I get myself all confused... I haven't pieced everything together yet, but that's okay! I'm getting there!
Hello friends, it's been a couple weeks. I've been feeling more exhausted than usual, and haven't had it in me to get my creative juices flowing, even though that's where my heart is happy. It was one of my big goals for the school year to continue finding time to pursue my other passions, such as this one. And, I've somewhat failed at that these past couple weeks, but I'm making a blog schedule this long weekend for the month ahead, and I'm sticking to it! I keep reading what a lifesaver it is to make a blog schedule to hold you accountable, so I'm giving it a try.
But, this blog post has been laying on my heart these past couple weeks and I'm ready to let it all spill out here. In my exhaustion, I have been finding time to relax and read a book, because my sanity needs that quiet down time. I've been reading Make It Happen by Lara Casey. And let me tell you, this has been the most perfect book for me in this season. I feel like Lara is speaking directly to me and my heart, it's like she knows me or something!
I'm writing this post to encourage you to keep it old fashioned, and just write it down. Write everything down... to-do's, goals, reminders, inspirations, lists, reflections, and more.
Because we all have those days... and maybe "those days" happen frequently... here's a super simple list of ways to "just breathe" and relax at the end of the day. The list is short and sweet because I wanted these things to be doable every single night (no need to organize a spa night every night for yourself)!
Goals are so important. They are so valuable when it comes to making things happen! It's incredibly helpful to write it all down, and then keep those written goals in a visible space as a constant reminder. I challenge you to make time for making purposeful goals! Think about the big picture of what you want & how you can get there. It doesn't matter the speed at which you're moving, just move forward. Here are my school year goals. I am writing these, printing them, and breaking them down to make them happen, because they're important to me... and my sanity ;)
Write a blog post or two has been on my to-do list now for a couple weeks... yet, I haven't found the time to do it. And, that is exactly my fear for this school year. School craziness begins and I let my other passions fall to the way-side. I also haven't practiced my lettering in a couple weeks, and I haven't cleaned my apartment (that's when you really know something's off with me -- I'm a bit of a clean freak). My heart has been struggling these past few weeks as I've been trying hard to get things done to prepare for school, yet still dreaming of all the other things I WANT to get done, but can't (or can I?). In addition, I've been teaching Pure Barre classes & opening an Etsy shop, and oh all the things (side note: these are things I truly love, so I am grateful). When people ask me, "how was your summer?" and I reply with "oh, it was so busy but lots of great stuff!" Others agree, and say they feel the same, and I let my mind go to this place, "oh but mine was definitely busier, I guarantee it." As I sit here just letting all of my thoughts spill out on this post, I say to myself... "Kelsey, you're so wrong."
Happy Sunday! This is my first shot at a "book review" on my blog, but before you continue on, I want you to know this isn't a "typical" book review, I'm not following any certain format or guidelines. This is simply me digesting the wonders of this book & hoping to share some tidbits of inspiration with you so that you may go pick up this book if it's for you (which really, I think it's for everyone, so even if you don't keep reading this post, go pick up this book -- just click on the picture above to take you right there)!
Okay, you already know what I'm going to say, don't you? Well, hang tight...
Yes, I do love the pumpkin patches, oversized sweaters, scarves, football games, plaid shirts, pumpkin spice lattes, and fun decorations. But, there's so much more about Fall that I just love...
I don't know about you, but I have that one show that I can ALWAYS count on. I can watch it over and over again and never get sick of it. I mean, I literally am watching this show very regularly... and I have been for several years (I can't remember the exact year I became obsessed with this show, but I'd say it's been close to 10 years). The glorious show that I speak of is the one and only, Gilmore Girls. It's incredible, really, that a TV show can make me feel the way this one does. I turn this show on to calm me, I turn it on to make me smile, I turn it on to feel understood.
Oh what a whirlwind of a week it was, moving into our new apartment! Change can be so challenging, or incredibly comforting. Changing apartments was the latter for me. I was ready for a change... ready for something new. I think we should always say "thanks" to change, because it forces us to find new beginnings, and to learn & grow. It's not always easy to give change our blessings, but it's always necessary. You know The Fray song said it best, "sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same." This move was not hard, but boy was it right! This summer has been so full, but I've made great strides in finding some of my real passions, and I'm starting to feel like I know what I want in life (but we'll save that for a later post, plus I don't want to speak too soon - ha!). All of that to say, may this change (move) be a new beginning for Kevin & I as a married couple & for me as a millennial trying to figure out what exactly I'm doing with my life...
Wellness is a topic I am very passionate about, and I haven't blogged about it recently, so I'm happy to be writing this post today!
When we think of wellness, we think of fitness & nutrition. We are "well" when we are exercising regularly and eating a balanced diet, right?! I wouldn't argue with that at all, but I would add one more piece... wellness means using safe products on and around you!
There's a lot of information on the internet about Essential Oils! Oils are very "in" right now. And, for good reason -- they truly have great medicinal value & their uses are endless! Plus, we are becoming a more educated society about making smarter choices about the products we are ingesting or putting on our bodies, and these 100% pure essential oils fall into the category of a smarter choice. This all brings me to my why for this post... the "endless uses" and the extensive amount of information out there can be overwhelming! Especially for the beginners (insert girl with hand-raised emoji-- that's me)! So, I wanted to share some basics that I have gathered through various sources so that you can find a starting point along with me as we explore essential oils!
For anyone who knows me, you know I love Pure Barre (I'm both an instructor & an avid class-taker). I've been a fitness lover since college, trying any & every type of workout! Amongst the many workouts I've tried are: Zumba, running (still a favorite of mine), yoga, pilates, Jillian Michaels DVDs, cycling, tabata, and the list goes on. This one, though, has been different for me... I very quickly became very passionate about everything Pure Barre. So, needless to say, a Pure Barre post has been brewing in my mind for quite some time, but I just wasn't sure of the exact direction I wanted to take.
I was at a wedding recently and the best man did his speech in the format of a David Letterman Top 10 List, and I thought to myself, "Oh, that's a great blog format -- I'll have to use that one sometime!" And well, this just feels like the right time to use it, so here's my own David Letterman style Top 10 List...
Two things to start: it's December 1st (what?!? how?), I swear I blinked and November was gone! And, second, this craft is my simplest yet! So, this is my November craft for my craft series that I explained here. I'm posting about it a day too late, but I promise the actual crafting happened in November!
Inspired by Rachel, over at This Beautiful Season, I decided to make my own Fall Wreath this year for our home sweet apartment! It was SO simple & quick... in fact, I barely have any steps to write here. But, it turned out great and it was a fun & easy craft to do this weekend as a break from all the work I've been doing. So, here are the details:
In my previous post I spilled out my heart about these past few crazy weeks. Amongst the chaos, I did a cool DIY project (something that I LOVE) that I wanted to share!
Alright, this is a shout out to all you coffee mug collectors! Who feels me on that one? I seriously can't pass up a cute or inspiring coffee mug. Some may call it a problem, I call it pure joy. Anyways, when we moved and unloaded all of our wonderful wedding presents, I realized, wow! I have way too many mugs to fit in our cabinets! So, I decided I would put some out as a "display," sort of as a decoration! I had this old door that has just been sitting in our apartment for some time and I knew the vision I had for it... a coffee mug display! So, this was the perfect time to make it happen. Check it out...
Happy November blogging world! I’m so happy to be doing my very first “fashion” post on the blog. May this be the first of many to come! I am excited to show you a couple of my favorite basics that will easily transition from Fall to Winter as the chilly weather is here (hopefully to stay) in Indiana. I am also excited to bring you some discount codes to shop, so make sure you read all the way through! Before I dive into the specifics, let me first say that when it comes to shopping, I am a bargain hunter! I love to search for fashionable items that won’t break my budget. I also am a huge fan of having some quality basics for every season that are very versatile! Having said that, know that this and any future fashion posts that I bring you will include exactly that: items that are useful, fashionable, and affordable!
